| Since the Hill brothers work published in 1932, the interest in the work of Joseph Guarneri del Gesu, in particular, has grown considerably. The occasion of the 250th anniversary of the death of the master, in 1994, prompted a celebration of his genius and a re-evaluation of his work from an updated perspective. The Metropolitan Museum, New York, was the stage for an exhibition organised by London violin dealer Peter Biddulph and Stewart Pollens, Associate Conservator of Musical Instruments at the Museum. (Many thanks to Peter Biddulph and Jennifer Laredo for permission to display this information). In 1998, the 300th anniversary of the birth of Joseph Guarneri del Gesu, a fully illustrated 2 volume book about the exhibits and the latest research into the life and work of the master, "Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesu", was published by Peter Biddulph. Contributors to the work included Carlo Chiesa, John Dilworth, Roger Hargrave, Peter Klein, Stewart Pollens, Duane Rosengard and Eric Wen with photography by Stewart Pollens Copies of the work can be obtained from Peter Biddulph by clicking the link and sending an e-mail enquiry to him. |
